2015 BNP Paribas Masters Paris: Murray, Federer and Nadal join Djokovic in the third round
Andy Murray, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal all progressed into the third round after winning their respective matches in Paris Bercy on Wednesday. Top seed Novak Djokovic previously advanced in the last 16 after beating Thomaz Bellucci in his second-round opening match 7-5 6-3.
Murray beat rising star Borna Coric, to avenge his recent defeat against the Croat in Dubai this year, in one of the men’s singles second round match at Court Central on Wednesday. The British tennis star only needed 59 minutes to dismiss Coric, who previously advanced after beating Fernando Verdasco in the first round 6-4 6-4.
Murray will play David Goffin for a place in the quarterfinals. The German beat qualifier Dusan Lajovic in straight sets to set up clash with Murray.
Federer also got off to a strong start after beating Italian Andreas Seppi in just 47 minutes, 6-1 6-1. It was the fourth time this season that the Swiss squared off with Seppi. Federer improved his head-to-head record 13-1 against the Italian. Federer will play John Isner next.
The Swiss, who reached last year’s quarterfinals, was happy with his easy second-round win. “I like great battles, playing two, three, four, five hours but 47 minutes is always very pleasant,” Federer said, as reported on men’s tennis official website. “You need to focus a lot for the very short time you are on the court, not to make mistakes; I’m very happy with this mental performance.”
Nadal also booked his spot in the last 16 after his victory over Lukas Rosol in the second round 6-2 6-2. The Spanish is now 4-1 against the Czech.
The 14-time grand slam champion is looking to win his first ATP World Tour Masters 1000 title this year. Nadal will play Kevin Anderson in the third round. Anderson beat Dominic Thiem to advance in Paris Bercy 6-7(3) 7-6(4) 7-6(5).
