Amir Khan is set to fight Devon Alexander come Saturday and if the British boxer wins the fight against the American pugilist, his promoter Oscar De La Hoya wants a big money fight either against Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Manny Pacquiao in 2015.

“It really rubs me the wrong way that Amir has been promised fighting the likes of Mayweather and Pacquiao and it hasn’t happened yet. He is at the perfect moment of his career. And one thing is for sure: 2015 is going to be his year,” De La Hoya shared to The Guardian. “He is a force to be reckoned with, a threat to everyone in the welterweight division. I’ve always said if you put him up to the test, if you put him up against a Floyd Mayweather, a Manny Pacquiao, don’t be surprised if he wins.”

Khan and Alexander will be fighting for the World Boxing Council (WBC) silver welterweight title at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada on Dec. 13 in a fight De La Hoya describes as “an even fight”. In another interview, De La Hoya said that the winner of the Khan vs. Alexander fight will be the next in line in the welterweight division,

“This is a fight that will obviously put both guys in line once again for that Mayweather Sweeptakes, so we are really looking forward to once again showcasing this event live from the MGM Grand arena in Las Vegas. We feel that the winner of this event will obviously move on and hit the lottery with hopefully a Mayweather fight,” De La Hoya said via fighthype.com.

There are on-going discussions about a Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight but as seen in previous negotiations between the two there is real possibility that a fight won’t happen anyway. A Khan vs. Pacquiao or Khan vs. Mayweather is not bad a “Plan B” considering Khan is also a big draw in boxing, particularly in his home country.
