Roger Federer is one round away from making his 27th grand slam final appearance. The 17-time grand slam champion will play Davis Cup partner Stan Wawrinka for a place in the final of the 2015 US Open.

The 17-time grand slam champion, who won the US Open five times (2004-2008), has not dropped a set at Flushing Meadows. Federer easily pulled off his stay in New York to reach the final four, winning all his matches in straight sets. He was only pushed to play two tiebreak sets during his fourth-round match against John Isner 7-6(0) 7-6(6) 7-5.

Federer has the upper hand against Wawrinka. He owns a head-to-head advantage over Wawrinka, who dispatched Kevin Anderson 6-4 6-4 6-0 for a semifinal berth. Federer has won 16 out of 19 previous matches against Wawrinka, 11 of those matches were staged in hard court surfaces. Federer leads 4-1 in grand slam event (2010 French Open Round of 16, 2011 Australian Open quarterfinal, 2011 French Open Round of 16, and 2014 Wimbledon quarterfinal. Wawrinka’s three wins over Federer came on clay, including his most recent win in their last encounter at the 2015 French Open quarterfinal.

“I think Stan played a wonderful match against me in Paris,” Federer said during his on-court interview with ESPN after the match. “He deserved it - throughout his career, he’s improved a lot, kept on working - it's really cool to have two Swiss in the semifinal of the US Open.”

In the tournament, Federer has fired a total of 58 aces to Wawrinka’s 61. Federer struck 207 winners and 101 unforced errors to Wawrinka’s 233 and 206.

Federer, 34, has not won a grand slam tournament since winning the Wimbledon in 2012. The 2015 US Open might be his best chance to add another grand slam title to his long list of tennis accolades. It will be interesting to see Wawrinka topple Federer for the second time in a grand slam tennis event this season.
