The next Samsung phablet - the Galaxy Note 3 - has inspired loads of speculations and phone concepts prior to its rumoured September 2013 release date.

Now, one of the persistent whispers apparently got a confirmation directly from the OLED Association, which according to SamMobile has affirmed that the Note 3 will indeed sport a sturdy once it becomes available.

The oversized smartphone is utilising Plastic OLED, a departure from the glass material seen with the Galaxy Note 2, for added durability.

The shift will also allow the device to shed sufficient heft and volume, making for a thinner and lighter Note 3 but with larger screen compared to the previous edition.

Most likely, the viewing window will be stretched to 5.9-inch from last year's 5.5-inch. Yet the wider screen will not bulk up the upcoming mobile phone as experts expect an edge-to-edge screen display design that cuts down both on size and weight.

It these claims proved true, the Samsung phablet would flash the biggest smartphone screen but with little footprint to boot, delivering a compact computing device that largely borrows its form-facto from a tablet.

Two possible additions to the Note 3, though not supported by confirmation, are the new IGZO display technology from Sharp and an aluminium casing.

The former is to achieve higher screen sensitivity that would allow for the optimal use the S-Pen while the latter is hoped to give the Note 3 a more premium look and feel that is deserving of a flagship handset.

Earlier reports have suggested that the Galaxy Note 3 is being prepped by Samsung for a September release date, specifically between Sept 1 and Sept 5.

The phablet will be distributed with an across the board implementation of the 8-core Exynos Octa 5 CPU, with a mix of the latest TouchWiz skin and Key Lime Pie likely running the giant-screen show.
