After Sony discarded the idea of Spider-Man 4 following the series of Sam Raimi films, the company decided to go with a reboot of the film. The reboot will tell a new and different angle of the story of Peter Parker. Actor Andrew Garfield will star in this whole new film opposite off-screen girlfriend and Hollywood's "It" girl Emma Stone.

- Andrew Garfield cried when he put on the mask for the first time. The young spidey shed some tears after putting on the suit of one of the most popular superheroes. Reports said that Andrew Garfields is destined to be Spider-Man with the talent and hard work that he put on in the role.
- Andrew Garfield studied spider movements. In order to prepare himself to the role, Andrew Garfield studied movements of spiders in order to incorporate it even when his character is not wearing the suit.
- Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone were not the first choice for the film. Ashley Greene, Mia Wasikowska, Scout Taylor-Compton Teresa Palmer, Amber Heard, Dianna Agron, Brooklyn Decker, Imogen Poots, Lindsay Lohan, Emma Roberts, Emily Browning, Lily Collins, Anna Kendrick, Ophelia Lovibond, Sara Paxton, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Georgina Haig, Hilary Duff and Dominique McElligott were some of the actresses considered for the role but were outplayed by Emma Stone during the auditions.
Andrew Garfield battled the role with Taylor Lautner, Josh Hutcherson, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Logan Lerman, Robert Pattinson, Jamie Bell, Daniel Radcliffe, Michael Angarano, Michael Cera, Alden Ehrenreich, Zac Efron, Aaron Johnson, Xavier Samuel, Jim Sturgess and Anton Yelchin. Marc Webb defended that even though Andrew Garfield is a new face in the industry, those who have seen his work in the past can attest on how talented Garfield is.
- Stacy's twist on the plot. In the film, Peter confessed his identity as Spider-Man to Gwen and Gwen's father, Captain Stacy, opposed Spider-Man's activities. This is very different from the real story where Captain Stacy is a supporter of Spider-Man and Gwen blamed the latter for his father's death. Thus, Peter never revealed to Gwen his other identity.
