Adele’s “21” album was named Billboard’s greatest album of all time.

The British singer’s second album titled “21,” nabbed the first spot among albums ranked by Billboard beginning 1963. To come up with the list, Billboard tracked the album’s ranking on charts and how long it stayed in the Billboard list, among other factors.

Adele’s second album “21” landed the top spot since it spent 78 weeks on Billboard’s Top 10 when it was first released in March 2011. It also had a set of 24 nonconsecutive weeks on top of the list and has even lingered on the upper part of the Billboard chart several months after its release.

The multi-awarded singer’s second album also surpassed the soundtrack for the iconic movie “Sound of Music” and Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” album.

In a previous 2011 interview with Billboard about the massive success of “21,” Adele mentioned her plans for a long break. She said, "I'm just going to lay some concrete, set up home and just 'be' for a bit. I'll disappear and come back with a record [when it's] good enough. There will be no new music until it's good enough and until I'm ready."

Meanwhile, now that the singer is set to release her third album “25,” Adele recounted the writing process for “21” during a recent interview with The Guardian. She recalled writing tracks for her second album with trusted co-writers and even described the record as an “anomaly” given the “effortless” way it was brought together.

“People found massive comfort in it,” she explained of the album’s success. “Because everyone can understand being disappointed by love.”

Adele also told the Guardian about her music break and how people thought she was “mad” or leaving the limelight for a short while amidst her successful career. Despite the feedback, Adele admitted that she was “glad it happened” and that it was the “right thing” to do at the time.

She even revealed that her son motivated her to return to the music industry. Adele shared during the Guardian interview that she “felt proud of what [she] achieved with 21" and explained that she wanted her musical achievements to be part of her legacy to her son and future children.

“I’m not motivated by much, certainly not by money – but I’m motivated by that,” she continued. “I want my child to see his mum running a proper business again. Being a boss again. Hopefully smashing it again.”

Adele’s third album “25” is set for release on Nov. 20.
