Adele’s '21' Tops Over Michael Jackson’s 'Thriller' in Britain’s Biggest-Selling Album Chart
Adele has outdone herself as her album "21" outsold Michael Jackson's "Thriller" in the UK charts.
After winning six Grammy awards in one night, not to mention the other awards she bagged for her album "21," there is no stopping British singer Adele as she triumphs over Michael Jackson's "Thriller."
From the Official Charts Company, results show that the "Someone Like You" singer has sold 4,274,300 copies, ahead by 500 from Michael Jackson. In addition to that, Adele's record is still selling at an average of 20,000 copies per week.
"To add to her many landmark records, Adele's achievement in overtaking Thriller in the all-time sales list is truly remarkable. Thriller has long been recognized as one of the most iconic albums of all time. There is now no doubt that 21 can be spoken of in the same breath," said Martin Talbot, the managing director of the Official Charts Company.
Since her album was released, Adele has managed to top over other albums including Pink Floyd's "The Dark Side of The Moon" and Dire Straits' "Brothers In Arms."
And although her fans are looking forward for her next album, Adele says that the phenomenal success that is "21" won't be followed by anything soon. The singer is expected to take a break and is planning to wait until tow years for the next album.
"If I didn't write my own songs, I'd be out next week with a new album. I have to take time and live a little bit. There were a good two years between my first and second albums, so it'll be the same this time," Adele said on French radio station NRJ.
