After its initial successful foray into gadgets with the tablet Kindle, ecommerce site Amazon is joining the smartphone battle by coming out with two handheld devices.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Amazon is working on two smartphones with amazing features such as eyeball control interface and hologram-like images.

The one with eyeball control interface will have a 3D screen that can be used without special glasses by using retina-tracking technology which would allow the phone user to see images like they are floating similar to a hologram and appear three-dimensional at all angles.

Amazon, which reportedly is also working on a TV set top box, has declined to confirm or deny the report, saying it does not comment on rumours and speculations.

TechRadar added that two smartphones are part of Amazon's Alphabet Projects at its Lab126 facility in Cupertino, California, since the code names of the ventures are Projects A, B, C and D.

However, The Wall Street Journal added that although Amazon aims to release some of the planned devices under the Alphabet Projects, some could be shelved due to performance, finance or other reasons, which explains why there is no definite launch date being leaked yet.
