Amazon Launches New Kindle Paperwhite; Features Higher Resolution Than Its Last eBook Reader
Amazon updated its Kindle Paperwhite on June 17 with a new 300 pixels per inch display. The Paperwhite’s display has got higher resolution than Amazon’s last e-book reader and the same resolution as that of the Kindle Voyage that is priced more than the new Paperwhite, according to reports.
According to a report on Digital Trends, the new Paperwhite sports a high resolution screen, an eye-friendly font and is available with or without cellular data and advertisements. The new model has twice as many pixels as the previous model and features ‘laser quality text.’ Amazon’s new font called ‘Bookerly’ and a new typesetting engine makes the new font scale better, if the text of the ebook is enlarged. Besides that the new Paperwhite resembles the older version with its six-inch glare free screen, reports Digital Trends.
Amazon says, Kindle Paperwhite adds hyphenation to separate words t the right place, presents paragraphs with consistent lines and adjusts the space between words. With this readers can read faster with less strain on their eyes as they get more natural word spacing and more word son each page. The typesetting engine presents drop caps, text and images on Kindle and dynamically adjusts the layout as the reader changes the size of the text, according to Amazon.
Both the engine and the font are available on Kindle Fire tablets and on iOS and the new engine will come to Kindle e-readers via a software update, reports The Verge.
The Paperwhite is backlit and can be read with sunlight. It weighs 7.2 or 7.6 ounces (depends on the model) and measures 6.7 x 4.6 x 0.36 inches, reports Digital Trends. The Wi-Fi only Paperwhite is slightly lighter whereas the 3G model is little heavier and new device’s battery should run about a month on a charge, as per the Digital Trends report.
The new Kindle Paperwhite can be pre-ordered for $120 (with ads on website) and the devices should ship on June 30 to the buyers who had preordered. For those who want to snub the ads will have to pay $20 more. The 3G version comes with a price tag of $190 with ads and $210 without ads, according to the report on Digital Trends.
