American Idol sends second finalist home
Latina diva wannabe, Karen Rodriguez sent home this week after Ashton Jones.
"American Idol" 21-year-old contestant from New York, Karen Rodriguez has failed to impress America with her rendition of Taylor Dayne’s “Love Will Lead You Back” despite her efforts to sing it not just in one language.
After she received the fewest votes, Rodriguez was sent home by the judges who chose not to save her but sent her home in Thursday’s elimination round.
“It just felt great to at least have that one chance,” Rodriguez was quoted as saying by the Associated Press after she sang Mariah Carey’s “Hero” for her last-chance performance and in hopes that she could convince the judge to use that once-only-save-vote.
Joining Rodriguez in the bottom three are Haley Reinhart from Illinois and Naima Adedapo from Milwaukee. The 20-year-old Reinhart belted out Whitney Houston’s “I’m Your Baby Tonight” while Adedapo, according to AP, has delivered a pitchy rendition of “What’s Love Got to Do With It” and both had been given another chance by America to come back for next week’s performance week.
This week’s elimination was capped by a performance by the Black Eyed Peas of “Just Can’t Get Enough”, dedicating it to their friends in Japan.
10th season American Idol winner, Lee De Wyze also took the stage this week and performed his hit single, “Beautiful Like You”.
DeWyze also gave a word of advice to the remaining hopefuls of this year’s American Idol.
“Just remember why you tried out in the first place,” DeWyze had reminded the contestants, according to AP.
He added, “At the end of the day, no matter when you leave, you still love music, and you’re gonna keep doing it. You guys are fine no matter what happens.”
In last week's elimination round, the judges also did not save Ashton Jones and was first to end her journey in this year's season of American Idol. Click here to see why Jones was eliminated last week.
