Amir Khan Left Los Angeles Because Hollywood Celebrities Are A Major Distraction
The world's A-list celebrities often pay the finest boxers a visit, either during training at the gym or during the fight night. Amir Khan, who used to train in Los Angeles, recently revealed why he decided to leave the city.
Khan has stayed in Los Angeles for four years, when he was still working with Freddie Roach. However, he parted ways with the Hall of Fame trainer in 2012 and appointed a new trainer in Virgin Hunter. Since then, Khan has relocated to Union City and has not looked back ever since.
In an interview with Tom Hopkinson for the Sunday People, Khan said that Los Angeles became a major distraction for him. He said that celebrities often visit him during training and he felt distracted.
"I used to have Mark Wahlberg and a lot of actors coming to the gym to watch me train," Khan said. "They would invite me for dinner afterwards and you can't really say no because they came to see you."
According to Khan, it has started to become so demanding for him. He described Hollywood as a "crazy" at night. Khan said there were plenty of parties everywhere. During daytime, Khan had to mingle with celebrities, so it got to a point where he became exhausted since he had little time to rest.
Khan said he needed to get away from Los Angeles. He chose Union City because it is a quite place that allows him to focus and rest more. It also helps that his father and brother are with him, which makes him feel a little more relaxed.
Khan is set to clash with Devon Alexander at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas on Dec. 13. He will face the American for the World Boxing Council welterweight title fight. Khan knew that he should go easy with his upcoming fight. He said he comes prepared and a lot stronger than his last fight in May.
Meanwhile, Alexander, who is coming off a victory against Jesus Soto Karass in June, told Bad Left Hook that he is also determined to win the fight. He said he can fight anybody and he is looking at the Khan fight as a chance for him to prove his worth so he can be regarded as one of the greatest pound-for-pound fighters.
