Ana Ivanovic: I want to win the Australian Open and Wimbledon
Ana Ivanovic said she is looking forward to more success in her career as a professional tennis player. The former World No. 1 said she wants to win another grand slam title and that she prefers to be the victor at the Australian Open and Wimbledon.
The 28-year-old Serbian tennis player had won her maiden and only grand slam title at the 2008 French Open, beating Dinara Safina in the finals 6-4 6-3. It was the same year that Ivanovic had peaked at the top spot of the world rankings in women’s tennis. However, Ivanovic’s career had gone through its ups and downs since then. She has dropped to as low as 65th rank (July 11, 2010) and achieved her highest season-ending rank as World No. 5 in 2014.
Speaking in Manila for the second leg of this season’s International Premier Tennis League (IPTL), Ivanovic was asked about her three-year career plan. She said it is still her dream to win another grand slam title.
“I have won one and also been World No. 1, but at the end of the day, people remember you for the titles you won, not so much your ranking,” Ivanovic said, as quoted by Times of India. “Any grand slam would be great, but I would like to win the Australian Open and Wimbledon.”
In the last seven years, Ivanovic has failed to make her own luck grow in grand slam tournaments. The 2008 Australian Open runner-up has suffered early eliminations in grand slam tournaments. The best feat that she has achieved in a grand slam setup was reaching the quarterfinals of the 2014 Australian Open (lost to Eugenie Bouchard 5-7 7-5 6-2) and the semifinals of the 2015 Roland Garros (lost to Lucie Safarova 7-5 7-5). At the All England Club, Ivanovic’s best performance was in 2007, when she reached the final four before losing to ensuing champion Venus Williams 6-2 6-4.
As the new season approaches, the Serbian will be making use of the off-season to condition her body and improver her game. According to Ivanovic’s last tweet, she is en route to New Delhi in India for the third leg of the 2015 IPTL. She just finished representing the OBI UAE Royals in Manila from Dec. 6 to Dec. 8.
Ivanovic is set to play her usual Australian Open lead-up tournament. She will return to Auckland for the ASB Classic from Jan. 4 to Jan. 9, 2016. Ivanovic is joined by Venus Williams, Caroline Wozniacki and Svetlana Kuznetsova in the women’s field in Auckland.
