Andre Agassi Says Novak Djokovic Will Reign The Top Of The World Rankings For The Next Couple Of Years
American tennis legend Andre Agassi already knew that Novak Djokovic will be one of the tennis greats when he played against him in an exhibition match in 2006. Recently, Agassi said that Djokovic is poised to dominate the sporting world of men's tennis for the coming years.
"Novak Djokovic is ready to keep on dominating tennis for one more year or two," Agassi said via Tennis World USA. "I see Novak as World No. 1 both in 2015 and 2016."
According to Agassi, Djokovic will have an "incredible rhythm" and he will be on a cruise control that would make him easily rise "a level above" the other top players in the game. Agassi added that the Serbian doesn't need to play his best tennis to beat tennis' great players. He said that Djokovic only needs to hold back his opponents and take control of the game.
Djokovic had massive wins against his rivals Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Andy Murray in the 2014 season. He finished at the top of the world rankings for the third time in the last 4 years. He won seven titles this season including his second Wimbledon title. He ended his season in style after winning the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London in November.
Agassi has played against Djokovic in an exhibition match in 2006, and he knew then that the Serbian will be one of the greats in the sport. Agassi has said in an article by The Australian in 2013 that he had never seen anyone defended the court better than Djokovic.
All tennis players have their own style, but Agassi was impressed at Djokovic's baseline performance. He said that Djokovic has the greatest weapon, being able to play so far behind and inside the baseline. Agassi said that the Serbian can play at the back of the court, strike deep and solid groundstrokes and he can also come up to the net and hit with volleys.
Both Agassi and Djokovic are taking part in the inaugural team tournament International Premier Tennis League, or IPTL. Agassi plays for the Singapore Slammers, while Djokovic leads the UAE Royals. The tournament is currently on its third leg, which is taking place in India.
Federer's Indian Aces is on the top of the standing with 28 points. Djokovic's Royals are tied with the Manila Mavericks at the second place with 23 points apiece. Agassi's Slammers are on the last spot of the leaderboard with 16 points.
