Android smartphone users are looking forward to taking a break with the new Kitkat OS, but as of now, there are only a handful of models that allow for the update, making the Android 4.4.2 Kitkat update one of the more anticipated ones around.

So far, a number of handsets have already been scheduled for the Android 4.4.2, but there are also hints of possible delays for others. Here's the list, so far, of handsets that may be looking at either a release or a possible cancellation of the Kitkat update.

Samsung Galaxy S3, Note 2 Cancelled?

With the unveiling of the Android 4.4 Kitkat-laden Samsung Galaxy S5 and the Samsung Galaxy S4 that's already slated to get the Kitkat update for some carriers, it seems that owners of the older versions of the handset—the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the Note 2—may expect a delay or even a cancellation of the update.

Android Geeks reports that despite the original plans to include the two devices in the line-up of those getting the Android 4.4 Kitkat update, it seems that there are issues with the device that may lead to the cancellation of the update.

The original announcement came from Samsung Saudi Arabia, which was first a delay of the update scheduled for March, but was changed later on to a more definitive cancellation of the update. The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 was later mentioned to also have the same issues.

Samsung has not yet announced anything in relation to the handsets and the Android 4.4 Kitkat update, so nothing is set in stone yet.

Moto X Gets Android 4.4.2 Update for AT&T

Good news comes for Moto X owners. Motorola has officially announced via its Web site that the Moto X will get the Android 4.4.2 Kitkat OS update. There are three main enhancements that Moto X owners will notice after they finally upgrade, including support for printing photos; Google Docs and other content through Wi-fi, Bluetooth and other services; better battery life; and a fix for an email syncing bug.

Users should note that once they've upgraded to the Android 4.4.2 Kitkat, there won't be a downgrade option.

LG Optimus G Pro to Update to Android 4.4

Another device that joins the bunch of devices slated for an Android 4.4 Kitkat update is the LG Optimus G Pro, though the first market that will be getting the update is South Korea.

According to GSM Arena, three Korean telecoms will get the update by March, namely SKT, LG U+ and KTF. An international roll-out of the Android 4.4 Kitkat has not yet been dated, but it's mostly likely not far away after the South Korean update, considering how the LG G2 has already been updated to the Android Kitkat OS.

What LG Optimus G Pro owners can expect would be faster performance and speed transfers, better messaging capabilities with the update for Hangouts and improvements with the UI and RAM.

Sony Xperia Not to Be Left Behind the Android 4.4.2 Kitkat Update

Sony has finally confirmed that a number of its devices will be getting the new Kitkat update.

Over at its official Sony Mobile Blog, the company mentioned three handsets that will be getting the Kitkat OS upgrade, namely the Sony Xperia Z Ultra, the Xperia Z1 and the Xperia Z1 Compact, which are some of its more recent handsets besides the upcoming Sony Xperia Z2.

"We've been working to build new Sony experiences on Google's Kitkat release to create some neat/sweet features (if we say so ourselves)—in addition to a few performance tweaks here and there," said Sony in the blog.

So apart from the Android 4.4 Kitkat update, users can expect tweaked Status Bar and Quick Settings; a new interface that features the same animation and wallpaper as seen in the PS4; improved experience for the native app for Sony, including MyXperia Messaging, Smart Social Camera, Smart Connect and more; better integration of the Sony entertainment experience with the media apps; and custom interface Xperia Themes.

And that's not all! While there are no specific release dates of the Android 4.4 Kitkat update for the mentioned Sony devices, it's slated for Q1 to mid-Q2 of 2014, as Sony also mentioned that it will be rolling the Android 4.4 Kitkat update for three more devices afterwards, the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL and the Xperia Tablet Z starting Q2, and the Xperia T2 Ultra, Xperia E1 and Xperia M2, presumably after the previous three handsets have been updated.
