The Moto X Pure Edition 2014 was one of the first non-Nexus devices to receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update as soon as the firmware was released. The latest Android firmware update, the Android 5.1 Lollipop is currently being seeded to Nexus devices. Again, Motorola is in the process of releasing the newest firmware update for its Gen 2 Moto X Pure Edition.

Motorola has already started the soak test of Android 5.1 Lollipop. It has also posted the entire changelog on the customer support page of its website. The update is expected to enhance stability and bring more user-friendly control on notifications.

After installing the Android 5.1 firmware, several new options and features are expected to be available to the users. Some of the improvements mentioned in the changelog include ability to prevent interruptions until the next alarm, scheduling downtime early and ability to include icons to the volume settings panel that are similar to the ones present on the status bar.

Android 5.1 update will allow users to easily dismiss a heads-up alert by swiping it up. The alert will remain in the notifications tray and can be dismissed completely later on. A pull-down menu will allow users to quickly switch between different Wi-Fi networks that are available. The same kind of menu will also be able to switch between different Bluetooth paired devices.

The camera app will be able to reduce noise in photos that are shot in low-lighting conditions. The selfie camera will function better as the firmware update comes with an improvement for the responsiveness of the viewfinder.

A lost or stolen Android 5.1 Lollipop can be unlocked only by signing in using the Google account. The factory reset option will not be able to reset a stolen or lost device. Plenty of bug fixes are also included in the Android 5.1 Lollipop update such as inability to delete text messages when the SIM card is full, Google Chrome crashing issue on launch, incorrect default APN, Wi-Fi connectivity issues and more.

Phone Arena claims the official OTA update for Android 5.1 will be made available for unlocked devices in the forthcoming weeks. However, devices released by carriers will have to wait longer to receive the firmware after it is tested and approved
