Although many smartphones haven’t received the Android Marshmallow update, Google is already working on the next version of Android. According to Android Headlines, the next version of Android would be named Nutella, or may be just Android 6.1. However, it is highly expected that Android Nutella would bring some big changes.

Ars Technica yearly predicts what Google holds for the year ahead. It is rumoured that Android N would be Android Nutella. For Android Kitkat, Google partnered with Nestle so it wouldn’t be surprising if the company partners with Nutella for Android N. While features are a concern, the new version of Android may have three big changes.

Android Headlines notes that one of the much-expected features is multi-window, which has the ability to perform multi-tasking. The feature allows the users to use more than one app on display at any time. For years, LG and Samsung have included this feature in their devices. The company hints that including a classically “highly experimental” feature in Android Marshmallow gives an expectation that Android N may have an enhanced version of it. It is similar to that of ART, which was introduced in Android 4.4 KitKat and introduced a developed version in Android Lollipop.

Andrew Bowers said on Reddit during an AMA about the Pixel C that “we’d spoil the surprise of N if we shared all of them. Split screen is in the works!” Google may introduce this feature for tablets, making the larger devices more useful. Moreover, it can compete with Apple’s new software features on the iPad, cites Android Headlines.

Another big feature speculated that Android N could have a new messaging app. However, it is not clear whether the new messaging app would push aside Google Hangouts. As new chatbots are creating a bandwagon these days, Google would also like get in on the act. Even Facebook is planning to introduce a messaging app.

Lastly, Google is expected to bring a big change for Chrome along with the above features. Since Sundar Pichai, the former head of Chrome and Android is now the CEO of Google, Android Headlines claims that he would unveil a preview version of the operating system later this year, and a final version of the merged OS may be launched in 2017.
