Angelina Jolie pulls the plug on Brangelina, files for divorce from Brad Pitt
Angelina Jolie has decided to end her two-year marriage and 12-year romance with Brad Pitt due to irreconcilable differences.
TMZ was the first to report on the Brangelina divorce but CNN later confirmed reports that Jolie, 40, has filed for divorce from Pitt, 52, with whom she shares six children.
According to the Jolie-Pitt divorce documents filed Sep. 19 before the Superior Court of California in Los Angeles, the celebrity couple has been separated since Sep. 15.
In divorcing Pitt, the “Maleficent” star seeks physical custody of their children: 15-year-old Maddox, 12-year-old Pax, 11-year-old Zahara, 10-year-old Shiloh, and eight-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.
"Angelina will always do what's in the best interest to protect her children," Geyer Kosinski, Jolie's manager, told E! News Tuesday. "She appreciates everyone's understanding of their need for privacy at this time."
For his part, Pitt asks the press to give his family space it needs this time.
"I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the wellbeing of our kids. I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time,” said in a statement.
Brangelina split: Alleged cheating
Meanwhile, other reports alleged that the divorce was due to Pitt’s alleged cheating with his “Allied” co-star Marion Cotillard.
The New York Post reported that Jolie uncovered Pitt’s off-screen affair with the French actress after hiring a private investigator to spy on them on the set of the upcoming movie. Cotillard is yet to issue a statement on the issue.
Jolie and Pitt married in Aug. 14, 2014 and shared biological children Shiloh, and twins Vivienne and Knox.
But the high-profile Hollywood stars have been a couple since 2004, after co-starring in the 2005 box-office film “Mr. and Mrs. Smith.” Named as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UHHCR) Goodwill Ambassador in 2001, Jolie was allegedly the cause of Pitt’s divorce with actress Jennifer Aniston in 2005. On the other hand, Jolie was previously married to actors Jonny Lee Miller and Billy Bob Thornton.
