After being one of the most successful game, Angry Birds is now hitting the big screen.

Game maker Rovio confirmed that the movie for the popular online game is already on the works. The film, to be produced in conjunction with Marvel, will explore the "emotional connection" gamers have with Angry Birds, a Marvel executive told Hollywood trade magazine Variety this year.

In a presentation at the Web 2.0 conference in San Francisco, Rovio announced that the game passed the 400 million mark as many people downloaded the app. The Finnish company also said that the game is being played 300 million minutes each day worldwide.

It was not all success for Rovio as the company had made 50 failed games before its iPhone hit Angry Birds, but has now sold 350 million copies of the US99c game. Moreover, Rovio sold millions of toys and T-shirts off the back of the game every month.

Moreover, the gamemaker also released Angry Birds Space over a month ago and has already reached 35 million downloads. The company claims this makes Angry Birds Space as "the fastest growing mobile game yet and breaking all our previous records."

Rovio said it would try to turn Angry Birds' worldwide popularity into an entertainment franchise like other popular characters such as Mickey Mouse or Super Mario.

"The brand and the fans are at the heart of everything we do," said Andrew Stalbow, a senior executive at Rovio, according to London's The Times.

"Everybody plays it. It's the one game that my five-year-old son plays with his grandfather. We want to take the game and make it into a new digital media entertainment franchise," he quickly added.

Rovio, which is aiming to have one billion players, also plans to release a themed cookbook by the end of the year.
