Angus Sampson joins ‘Fargo’ Season 2 after ‘Insidious: Chapter 3’
Angus Sampson made his debut in the crime drama series “Fargo” Season 2 premiere. This was several months after the release of the sequel “Insidious: Chapter 3,” in which he starred with Dermot Mulroney and Stefanie Scott.
In “Fargo” Season 2, Sampson plays Bear Gerhardt, the middle son and the kindest child of Floyd Gerhardt (Jean Smart). Other members of the recurring cast who play the Gerhardts are Jeffrey Donovan as Dodd Gerhardt, Kieran Culkin as Rye Gerhardt and Michael Hogan as Otto Gerhardt.
Sampson auditioned for a small role in “Fargo” Season 2, but he reportedly did not hear anything from the show for almost a month. Eventually, the Australian actor’s agent in the United States called to inform him that the show wanted to test him for a role that is bigger than the one he originally auditioned for.
Within a day of testing for the role of Bear Gerhardt, Sampson was with “Fargo” creator Noah Hawley. In December 2014, the actor was told he had to film in Canada in a matter of weeks.
Sampson told The West Australian that Hawley had seen the 2014 crime drama “The Mule,” in which he starred opposite Leigh Whannell and Hugo Weaving. “The Mule” marked Sampson’s directorial debut, with Tony Mahony as his co-director.
According to Sampson, Hawley noted some similarities between his character from “The Mule” and the one the “Fargo” creator wanted him to do. In “The Mule,” Sampson played a television repairman who was asked to transport heroin on flight from Thailand back to the U.S.
Before “Fargo” Season 2, Sampson starred in several TV series including “Blue Heelers,” “Greeks on the Roof,” “The Secret Life of Us,” “Chandon Pictures,” “Underbelly,” “The Librarians” and “Spirited.” In 2014, he played Wayne Duffy in “Party Tricks.”
Sampson’s next film after “The Mule” was “Insidious: Chapter 3,” in which he reprised his role as Tucker. In its opening weekend, the third instalment in the horror film series finished in third place at the box office, failing to beat the Dwayne Johnson-starrer, “San Andreas,” and “Spy,” which starred Jason Statham and Melissa McCarthy.
