Anthony Taylor, The Referee Who Booked Cesc Fabregas, Apologises To Mourinho
The most documented Barclays Premier League moment last Sunday was when Anthony Taylor booked Cesc Fabregas for simulation after going down in the box. It has now come to light that Taylor has understood his mistake and has spoken to the Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho and apologised before they both left the stadium.
The incident took place when Matt Targett's leg tripped the Spanish Chelsea forward in the Southampton box. After looking at television replays it appears that the incident warranted a penalty decision to go towards the west London club. To the disappointment of the Chelsea faithful's the referee booked Fabregas for play acting.
This incident left Jose Mourinho furious and he did not hold back when speaking to the media after the match. He was specific enough to say that the match official should be ashamed of his decision and also claimed that a sustained campaign has been initiated against his players accusing them of cheating. This incident comes after Hull City FC manager Steve Bruce had accused Chelsea players of diving in the box to get penalty decisions.
Incidentally the match ended in a one all draw. The home side scored first on the 17th minute courtesy of a Sadio Mane goal. The away side leveled the score at the stroke of half time with a wonderful goal scored by Eden Hazard. The controversy happened in the 54th minute of the match. The penalty, if given, could have proven to be the winning goal.
Elsewhere fellow title aspirants Manchester City were also held two all at home against an unfancied Burnley side. If Chelsea won their match, it would have given them a five point lead at the half way point of the league. At the present moment Chelsea have a three point lead over Manchester City. On New Year's Day Chelsea are away to fellow London club Tottenham Hotspurs while Manchester City are at home to Sunderland.
