Anti-Facebook Social Network passes 100,000 members
Unthink, the social network that markets itself as the complete opposite of such tyrannical sites like Facebook and Google Plus, has already reached 100,000 members in its first weeks of operation.
The new social network certainly piqued interest when it launched as it used an anti-Facebook campaign to set itself apart from other sites. Unthink used such language as freeing users from the "spying" of such sites such as Facebook and showed users casting off shackles and saying, " I never knew I'd be a part of some puppet show. You can't own me".
Although Unthink is in private beta testing at the moment, its aggressive stance seems to have struck a chord with users as it has already passed 100,000 members. However revolutionary it may describe itself, Unthink is actually a combination of Google Plus and Facebook. The site is divided into Lifestyle, Professional and Social pages.
Privacy of course is at the center of Unthink. The site was aimed at users who had gotten tired of the privacy issues in Facebook and Google Plus. Suites on Unthink will be private be default and will only be viewed if the user manually adjusts the privacy settings. Unthink can also create three different profiles for the three different spheres. Users can have a different profile page for friends and family and another for professional contacts.
According to Rachel Vicari, COO of Unthink, the company was unprepared for the amount of traffic it saw in its first two days. The visitors to the site over the first two days since launch was the site's expected traffic for the first 90 days. The site had to triple the amount of servers to keep up.
It still remains to be seen if Unthink can amass the millions of users Facebook and Google Plus have. Facebook took a year to reach a million users, Google Plus took a month to reach 25 million. If Unthink can post the same results in a month's time, the site will be a runaway success and prove that privacy is still important in this age of social networking.
