Apple iPhone 6 Plus vs OnePlus One -- The One Is Surely A Major Threat For the iPhone 6 Plus
The iPhone 6 Plus that was dubbed as the largest iPhone ever was launched last Sept 9. Now, OnePlus, the famous Chinese smartphone manufacturer has come forward to 'welcome' the Cupertino company to 'the Plus family', by launching a 64GB variant of the OnePlus One smartphone. OnePlus is also giving away 550 invitations to purchase the handset.
Let us compare the two handsets to know whether the OnePlus One can defeat the iPhone 6 Plus in features and specifications:
Design
Available in impressive colors like gray, silver and gold, the iPhone 6 Plus stands tall with a measurement of 158.1 x 77.8. It has a very slim body of 7.1mm. It weighs 172g. The iPhone 6 Plus does appear premium thanks to anodised aluminum and shatter proof glass exterior.
The OnePlus One is devoid of metal body. It features a polycarbonate exterior and is available in colors like black and white. It is slightly smaller as it measures 152.9 x 75.9mm and thicker too as it measures 8.9mm. It weighs only 162g.
Display
The iPhone 6 Plus features a 5.5-inch LED-backlit IPS LCD display that produces vivid and bright colors. OnePlus One comes with the same sized LTPS LCD display that also appears very bright and consumes less power. Both the displays support full HD resolution and offer a pixel density of 401pppi.
Processor, RAM and Storage
The iPhone 6 Plus is equipped with a dual-core 64-bit A8 processor. It features PowerVR GX6650 graphics and 2GB RAM. It is also fitted with M8 motion co-processor that exclusively communicates with the various sensors on the handset and transfers the data to the main A8 processor. The iPhone 6 Plus is designed to support high-end games.
Like all the other iPhones, the iPhone 6 Plus does not feature external storage slot. Internal storage option includes 16GB, 64GB and 128GB.
The OnePlus One receives its power from quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor that produces a clocking speed of 2.5GHz. It features Adreno 320 graphics along with 3GB RAM. It offers 16GB and 64GB internal storage options. The One also does not feature an external microSD slot.
Camera
The iPhone 6 Plus has an 8MP shooter on its rear that works faster and is capable of taking great photos. It is enabled with features like Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), autofocus, dual-LED flash and 1,080p video recording at 60fps.
The 1.2MP camera sitting above the display supports photography modes like burst and HDR. It was designed to take better selfie photos. It supports 720p video shooting.
The OnePlus One is housed with a higher 13MP camera that has features like autofocus, dual-LED flash along with 2,160p and 1,080p video recording at 30fps and 60fps respectively. The front-facing 5MP camera also supports 1080p video recording.
Distinctive Software and Hardware Features
The iPhone 6 Plus is running on the latest iOS 8. It is packed with numerous improvements over the older iOS 7. Some of the new features include transparent effects, QuickType keyboard, Family Sharing, HealthKit, Handoff and more. The OnePlus One comes preloaded with Android v4.4.2 KitKat that can be upgraded to v4.4.4 KitKat. It is overlaid with CyangogenMod 11S that offers amazing flexibility to customize the OS. Such customization features are not available on iOS 8.
The iPhone 6 Plus comes with many new hardware and software features that were available for Android users since quite some time such as Touch ID fingerprint sensor NFC, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Category 4 LTE connectivity, predictive keyboard and barometer sensor to name a few.
The OnePlus One has all the above features except for fingerprint sensor. It even comes with some unique features like dual mono speakers and USB OTG.
Battery
The iPhone 6 Plus has a non-removable battery of 1,810mAh capacity. It offers a talk time of 14 hours and standby time of 250 hours on 3G.
OnePlus One is blessed with a massive 3,100mAh non-removable battery that is larger than the one shipped with popular smarpthones like Sony Xperia Z2, Samsung Galaxy Note 3, HTC One M8 and Samsung Galaxy S5. It offers a talk time of over 8 hours.
Price
The 16GB iPhone 6 Plus is available on-contract for $229. The 64GB and 128GB versions are available on-contract for $399 and $499. It is easily available in the U.S. through all the four leading carriers and even smaller carriers. The 16GB, 64GB and 128GB variants of iPhone 6 Plus can be bought at an off-contract price of$749, $849 and $949, respectively.
The OnePlus One is not available for direct purchase outside China. You can get 'One' only though invitation or by participating contests from OnePlus. The 16GB version is priced at $299 and $64GB is available for $349.
