Apple iPhone 6 To Trump All iPhones Even After iPhone 6s Release
Apple's upcoming iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus have been making waves with several analysts saying they can be more successful than all previous offerings. According to latest forecasts, the new line will be bigger than ever for a simple reason: there are still consumers keen on owning big screens. Can Apple deliver a killer line?
According to Cowen and Co analyst Timothy Acuri, even following Apple's launch of new iPhones, the current iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus phones will continue to sell. The analyst added that the demand for more affordable large-screened phones remains generally high. This serves as a big opportunity for Apple to sell more iPhones for lower prices. Acuri noted, "I think the iPhone 6 will have a much longer demand tail that they can tap into for the September quarter."
The upcoming iPhone 6s line has been associated with a number of modest updates including Force Touch and improved camera. Despite the pending release, Apple still stands to gain even more from existing line as they can compete with top-tier Android units. They are also of the same size. Acuri added: "[Apple] knows that this is a little different than prior cycles, where you would price reduce the old phone...If the price is right, I think there could be a pretty deep demand pool for a price-reduced iPhone 6 certainly compared to a price reduced 5s or 5 or 4 or any prior phone that was competing in the market against other phones with a similar ASP that had a larger screen."
In a supporting note, it appears Macquarie Research believes that Apple will not drive as much growth for its iPhone 6s line as it did with the iPhone 6. The same reason as with Acuri stands. According to Macquarie's research note: "Since the new phone will not be a size upgrade, we are concerned that the growth simply won't be there. We are well aware that this is incredibly simplified, but because it is simple doesn't mean it won't impact the growth and stock." Apple has not released any final details of its upcoming iPhone 6s line yet.
