Apple Will Release 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 in 2014 to be Followed by Pressure Sensitive iPhone 6S
Large-screen iPhones have been making headlines for quite some time now. Likewise, there have been reports of Apple exploring the idea of bigger iPhones for 2014. Apple already launched a more gesture-friendly iOS 7 so it seems only a matter of time before the tech giant unleashes a series of handsets supporting the interface better. According to recent reports, Apple is working on 4.7and 5.5-inch iPhone 6. There are also sources saying that the company could be working on a pressure-sensitive iPhone 6S.
Anything is possible with Apple. As the tech giant has demonstrated throughout the years, it has been branching out to different types of designs and models. Some analysts think it is a way to compete more with Samsung as the Korean tech giant has been successful diversifying its line. It seems the tech giant will be taking a leaf out of Samsung's pages to pursue two types of iPhone 6. Tim Culpan and Adam Satariano from Bloomberg also see a similar trend:
"With screens of 4.7 inches and 5.5 inches, the two new models would be Apple's largest iPhones, the person said, and would approach in size the 5.7-inch Galaxy Note 3 that Samsung Electronics Co. debuted in September. "
"The South Korean maker last month released its curved-screen Galaxy Round, the latest phone in an array of sizes and price points that's helping keep Samsung ahead of Apple in global market share. [..] Testing continues on the pressure-sensitive technology, which is unlikely to be ready for the next iPhone release and is instead planned for a later model."
There are regions across the globe with users preferring larger screens over smaller ones. These consumers prefer the larger screens because they can multitask and treat the device as a tablet. Most smartphones share tablet-like functions these days. It is easier to get a device with larger screen and can double as a phone and a tablet instead of getting two separate devices.
Bigger devices can help people perform more tasks. Analysts say that Apple will do well in exploring this opportunity. The market has a considerable number of consumers looking for large screens. Additionally, Apple has already established a name. Branding will not be a problem.
Apple has started shipping different screen sizes for Mac. In 2012, the company has started offering two types of screen sizes of iPad. It will not be a surprise if the tech giant tries its hands on multiple screens for phones.
