Ariella Arida Tops Hot Picks for Miss Universe 2013: Is the Philippines on the Path to Victory?

Basking in the glory of their Miss World victory, all Filipina eyes are set on to the country's third Miss Universe crown since the 1973 victory of Margarita Moran, the Philippines nearly grabbed the title twice - in 1999 with Miriam Quiambao and last year with Janine Tugunon.

Ariella Arida tops Hot Picks for being the most talked candidate after a series of photo fiascos (Pressured by the fanatical fans, the original picture of Ariella at the official Miss Universe site was removed and replaced with a better one).

Born November 20, 1988, in Alaminos, Laguna Ariella "Ara" Hernandez Arida Prior to her win at Binibining Pilipinas, she was a runway model and was also a contender at the Miss Philippines Earth 2012 representing Alaminos, Laguna.

Arida is a member of Iglesia ni Cristo and a chemistry graduate from the University of the Philippines Los Baños from Alaminos, Laguna. She is a sportswoman who loves the outdoors, particularly the beach and was a former Binibining Laguna contestant.

Prior to winning the title, Arida competed at Miss Philippines Earth 2012 and she won Miss Universe-Philippines and Best in Swimsuit and crowned by Miss Universe 2012 1st Runner-up, Janine Tugonon at a pageant held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on April 14, 2013. Philippine National Police chief, Director General Alan Purisima was the one of the members of jury who questioned her. Her answer is this:

"One lesson in life that we, women, can teach men is being sensitive. Because we all know that men are more logical when it comes to decision. They usually are more rational, straight forward. Unlike we, women, we use our heart and we tend to get emotional in some of our decisions. For me, sensitivity is something that we can teach men."

After she was named Miss Universe Philippines 2013 during the Binibining Pilipinas coronation night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on April 14, 2013 24 years old Arida will represent the country at the 2013 Miss Universe pageant at the Crocus City Hall in Moscow, Russia on November 9.
