Arsenal FC News: Arsene Wenger Contemplating on Signing New Players in January
Arsene Wenger's Arsenal has been on a tear lately, remaining undefeated for 12 straight games both in the English Premier League and the Champions League, having drawn only their fixture against West Bromwich Albion on Oct 6, but the French manager still thinks that there is still room for improvement as far as squad depth is concerned.
Norwich City has been their latest victim, suffering a 4-1 blow-out, but Wenger knows that anything can still happen in their campaign given the quality of the teams in the League.
He believes that Manchester United, being the defending champions, are not to be discounted despite being behind by 8 points.
"It's too early," Wenger told arsenal.com.
"Eight points starts to be a little gap but they [Man United] are not out of the title race. And we are only two points in front of all the others."
"If you have a choice nobody wants to be eight points behind. If you have the choice, you want to be in the race at the top. But you cannot rule Man United out today. They have big players, big experience and they are a big club. It's three games basically [to make up the gap] - that is very quick in our league," he emphasised.
Wenger, who played an instrumental role in landing German sensation Mesut Ozil, hinted on acquiring new players when the January transfer window opens, but implied to keep his standards high and go through the usual rigorous process of selecting a signing that could make an impact to his squad.
"We have a squad that, number and quality-wise, is very, very good," said Wenger.
"We are not desperate now [to sign anyone].
The Gunners are boasting a stuffed midfield having world-class quality which includes the likes of Ozil, Santi Cazorla, Aaron Ramsey, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Jack Wilshere, among others.
"I think it's important, when you know who is out injured now, that they will come back in November and the beginning of December. Then you have a really massive squad. [But] if there is a good opportunity, why not?" he revealed.
