The 2014 FIFA World Cup is around the corner and Arsenal attacking midfielder Santi Cazorla is determined to take part in the quadrennial event.

Cazorla, who is aged 28, feels that the upcoming 2014 competition in Brazil is his best shot in representing his country, Spain, as he failed to take part in the proceedings in South Africa due to an injury.

"World Cup 2014 has an extra meaning for me," he told arsenal.com.

"Unfortunately I couldn't play in 2010 due to a back injury."

The tournament in 2010 culminated with the La Roja lifting the trophy, which haunts Cazorla to this very day because he knew he had the chance of winning in the pinnacle of football's international competition.

"Spain ended up lifting the trophy and not being part of that is still at the back of my mind," he revealed.

Above anything else, Cazorla desires to win it all for his countrymen, as Spain is experiencing tough times as of late due to economic turmoil.

"There's nothing like playing in the World Cup and representing your country. I hope I can experience that and I hope the Spanish national team can bring a bit of happiness to the country," he said.

"Spain is going through a difficult period and football is way of escape for many Spaniards. I hope we can bring home the trophy."

Some of the players in the competitive Gunners squad, which are representatives of their respective countries, are also gearing up toward the same goal as Cazorla's.

"Everyone is thinking about the World Cup," he disclosed.

"Arsenal's Belgian or German players are already thinking about it because they have already collected their tickets to the tournament."

"The World Cup is a competition held every four years and you don't always qualify for it. I hope to be part of it because this might be my only chance to play in a World Cup."
