Arsenal v Dortmund: Courterattack Decided the Game, According to Klopp
Jurgen Klopp's Borussia Dortmund brought Arsenal back to the ground as they handed the latter a late 2-1 defeat.
The German manager admitted that the Gunners were in their best form these past few weeks, which was countered by a spectacular performance by his men.
"It was a fantastic performance. We had an away game against Arsenal, who are in sensational shape at the moment, yet we managed to cause them a lot of problems," Klopp told uefa.com.
"It was an open game which we ended up winning thanks to a fantastic move."
A great team performance coupled with hard work was the main ingredient to Dortmund's success.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored the first goal after an Aaron Ramsey error in front of Arsenal's goal and Robert Lewandowski sealed the deal in the second-half to end the game with 2-1.
Olivier Giroud's first-half strike proved deficient as the Gunners pushed forward, which made them vulnerable to counterattacks.
"My team gave their all. We started very well, had fantastic work-rate when not in possession and created some superb counterattacking situations for ourselves," he revealed.
"Then we took a 1-0 lead, but Arsenal are too strong to contain for the whole time. However, they didn't end up having that many chances."
"Both teams then battled hard against each other, but we were always alert and ready to decide the game with one attack."
The German side was able to protect the lead in the final 8 minutes and went on to secure the victory.
"After that happened, we did a great job [to hold on for victory], especially in the last eight minutes. It was a great performance, we were very mature," he added.
Meanwhile, Gunners midfielder Mikel Arteta realises the circumstances brought about by the result, but firmly remained optimistic that they can will move on to the next round.
"It is going to be tough now. This is probably the toughest group in the whole competition but I think we are still capable of going through," said Arteta.
