August has finally arrived which for some means the anticipated debut of films fans have been waiting for since last year. Selena Gomez's action-packed film, "Getaway" hits theatres this month along with a few film adaptations that has got bookworms hyped in anticipation. Check out all the latest films set for release this month of August.

Cassandra Clare's best-selling novel, "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones" is set to hit cinemas this month. The film stars "Mirror Mirror's" Lily Collins, "Twilight's" Jamie Campbell-Bower, "Misfits" Robert Sheehan and "Game of Thrones'" Lena Headey. UK release is scheduled on August 23 while the US release is on August 21.

Logan Lerman reprises his role as Percy Jackson in the sequel to "Lightning Thief", "Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters." Alexandra Daddario, Brandon Jackson and Nathan Fillion join Lerman on the quest to stop an ancient evil from rising. The film is set to hit theatres by August 7.

"Directioners" have a lot to look forward to this month with the highly anticipated release of the One Direction film, "This Is Us." The film stars the boys of 1D, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik and Harry Styles in their journey from humble beginnings to the superstars they are now. "This Is Us" is set to hit theatres by August 30.

Selena Gomez's action-packed film, "Getaway" is also set to zoom into cinemas by the 30th of August. Joining Gomez onscreen is none other than Ethan Hawk. Other action packed films set to debut this month include "Kick Ass 2" starring Chloe Moretz, "Paranoia" starring Liam Hemsworth and "Elysium" starring Matt Damon.
