'The Bachelorette' 2015 star Michael Turnbull offers a dinner date all for a great cause
Sam Frost might have turned down the 2015 "The Bachelorette Australia" suitor Michael Turnbull over Sasha Mielczarek, but the former professional football player has clearly not given up on finding true love. He is auctioning himself for a date to raise funds for 23-year-old Joey Lynch, a Hodgkin’s Lymphoma sufferer. Lynch needs $800,000 to go to the US for a clinical trial.
Fox Sports is auctioning off the date, which can be found on eBay. Sydney Confidential via The Daily Telegraph reports that when Turnbull was asked what the winning bidder could expect from the date, he said “ I don’t know! Apparently I’m not very good at dates, I didn’t get the girl! ”
The winning bidder gets a chance to dine with the 34-year-old former goalkeeper at a premium restaurant, chosen by Michael himself. All the proceeds from the auction will go to CanTeen, an organisation that supports young people suffering from cancer.
The Sydney Morning Herald (SMH) reports that Mr. Lynch is extremely thankful for the support and sincerely hopes that Michael finds someone special. CanTeen CEO Mr. Peter Orchard also said he hopes that this date addresses a wider issue. He thinks that Joey and others like him shouldn't have to travel overseas to get the medical care they need. CanTeen wants the federal government to allot $4 million a year for a youth cancer research fund in Australia.
Joey Lynch has been a member of CanTeen since 2010 after he underwent his first Stem Cell Transplant to treat the Hodgkin's Lymphoma he was diagmosed with in 2008. He has been on a leadership role within CanTeen soon after he joined the organisation.
Speaking on the issue, "The Bachelorette Australia" finalist added that he hates cancer especially because he lost his childhood friend of 19 years to the dreaded disease. He said that he would do anything to help anyone suffering from it.
Michael’s charitable inclinations are always news on social media. Recently, he granted some wishes on Instagram like the wine night and VIP dinner to a fan and her friend at a Melbourne restaurant.
He also gave away a pair of football boots signed by Melbourne Victory.
He even gave away a night at The Royal Croquet Club with his mum and shared the photo on Instagram.
