British actress Emily Blunt is the latest celebrity to be linked with the casting news for the upcoming Batman vs. Superman film. Recent reports claim the 31-year-old "Edge of Tomorrow" star is close to signing up for a role in the film and the speculations point to the villainess character Catwoman.

According to the Belfast Telegraph report, details on Emily Blunt's involvement in the "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" film as well as the role to be portrayed are still unknown. The report on the actress being tipped for a part in the much anticipated superhero movie came from the Spanish Web site El Multicine.

The Cinema Blend report noted the reason why Emily Blunt could appear in the Batman vs. Superman film. According to the site, the actress has been considered to portray the superhero role of Black Widow in the "Iron Man 2" film that went to actress Scarlett Johansson in the end.

The site noted as well why the British actress will not join the film's long list of cast members. Emily Blunt has been avoiding superhero roles in her acting career. Another character reported to make an appearance in the "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" film is Commissioner Jim Gordon.

The Batman-On-Film reports that the character's appearance in the film could be a short one only. The report further noted that if Commissioner Gordon is indeed in the film, a new actor would have already been cast for the role.

The upcoming movie project has been described as well to be "ridiculously overcrowded" with the big celebrity names so the addition of actress Emily Blunt and a new actor for the Commissioner Gordon role is still uncertain. "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" cast members include Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Holly Hunter, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White and Diane Lane as Martha Kent.

The Zack Snyder-directed superhero film is scheduled to be released in theaters worldwide on May 6, 2016.
