The Beki Chronicles: Gay Soap Opera My Husband’s Lover Causes Filipinas to Doubt Masculinity of Their Boyfriends (VIDEOS)

Besides courting the ire of Philippine Catholic bishops, but opening the minds of many Filipinos about same-sex love, the popular but soon-to-end soap opera My Husband's Lover has stirred a hornet's nest in some local homes and relationships.

The reason is that because of the bekiserye's storyline that shows even the most masculine-looking males could actually bear a secret torch for another man while married to or in a relationship with a woman, some Filipinos now doubt the masculinity of their husbands or boyfriends.

Singer and actress Kuh Ledesma shared this tidbit of information on Saturday at the thanksgiving concert of My Husband's Lover held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. "So many women approached and told me that because of MHL, 'Now I am beginning to doubt my boyfriend, so if I could wait a little longer, I want to know my boyfriend better,'" she said in Pilipino, quoted by Pep.ph.

"We really should pray about who will be our lifetime partner and for the right time to settle down," Kuh added.

Of course, the biggest drawer of the concert were the star-crossed lovers, Vincent Soriano, played by Tom Rodriguez, and Eric del Mundo, portrayed by Dennis Trillo, plus Lally Agatep, played by Carla Abellana, as the suffering wife of Vincent.

The actors, including the supporting characters, played to the hilt their gay roles or links to the main cast by mouthing familiar lines and singing songs that hinted of good-byes and eternal love and acceptance of self.

Chanda Romero, who plays Sol, the mother of Eric, brought the house down when she introduced herself as My Husband's Lover's Mother and added, "Ako ang ina ng sangkabekihan (I am mother gay herself)."

The show, now on its last week, promises to bring more surprises until the very end. Although the Monday episode showed Eric leaving Vincent for the U.S., with four more days to go, viewers may be surprised who will live happily ever after at the end of the hit bekiserye.

The entire thanksgiving concert will be aired on GMA's Sunday Night Box Office on Oct 20.
