Ben Affleck: 'Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice' Actor Speaks Up on Fans' Reaction to His Batman Casting
Actor Ben Affleck kept mum on the criticisms he received from the "Man of Steel" fans when the casting news revealed he will portray Batman in the upcoming "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" film. In a recent interview, the 41-year-old "Argo" star finally talked about the fans' negative reaction to his participation in the much anticipated movie sequel.
Ben Affleck revealed in an Entertainment Weekly interview that he already knew about the casting criticisms before taking the role of Batman in the "Batman V Superman" film. "Warner Bros. gave me a bunch of past reactions to casting and said, 'Are you sure you want to get into this?'" Affleck shared.
The actor added that the studio also warned him about the countless active fans that have several opinions. However, Affleck does not seem fazed because he believes everyone is entitled to have an opinion.
"I wouldn't have taken the part if I didn't trust my instincts in terms of the filmmaking," Affleck explained. Ben Affleck further shared that what made him interested in taking the Batman role are "Argo" writer Chris Terrio's work on the script and the chance to work with film director Zack Snyder which the actor described as a "great visual director."
When it comes to the harsh casting backlash, Ben Affleck admitted that he and actor Jamie Dornan of the "Fifty Shades of Grey" film can relate to the experience. "That's a big part of this international sport. That's sort of become a thing," Affleck stated.
Ben Affleck finds the negative reactions to his Batman casting a good sign because it means the fans do care that much. However, the actor is aware of the pressure the casting brings because it is now up to him to do a great job in portraying the character.
"They want to see the movie that much. At the end of the day, the movie's all that matters," the actor explained. Filming for the "Batman V Superman" film temporarily stopped as cast members Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill attended the 2014 San Diego Comic-Con with director Zack Snyder.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Ben Affleck's appearance at the event showed that the actor looked physically fit with the pounds of muscle he packed as a result of his workout. The actor revealed that he really worked out a lot in order to get his physical self as close to the Batman role as possible.
"Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" is scheduled to be released in U.S. movie theaters on March 25, 2016.
