Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange wields his Sorcerer Supreme powers
A new photo recently released gave fans their first look of Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange dressed in his Sorcerer Supreme costume. Another photo reveal also showed a brief glimpse of the superhero’s mystical powers.
Entertainment Weekly has shared on its official Twitter page one of its six exclusive photos of Cumberbatch dressed as the Sorcerer Supreme. The publication has teased what’s in store for the character when the “Sherlock Holmes” star will portray the role of Marvel’s mystical hero in the 2016 film “Doctor Strange.”
The photo shows Cumberbatch all dressed up like his Sorcerer Supreme comic book counterpart. The actor is literally letting the sparks fly as he wields a yellow mystical energy from his hands.

“These gestures are ways of creating the magic. It’s a beautiful thing, it’s balletic, it’s very dynamic," Cumberbatch told Entertainment Weekly (EW) about Doctor Strange’s movements to conjure his Sorcerer Supreme powers.
In the same interview with EW, Cumberbatch assured there will be a lot of action and magical effects happening in “Doctor Strange.” There will reportedly be “all sorts of craziness,” from flying, fighting, falling, jumping, punching and getting punched. The Scott Derrickson-directed film will be full of “rough and tumble,” he said.
The publication also shared a photo of Cumberbatch dressed as the Sorcerer Supreme in his red and blue costume. He has on his red cape and is also pictured wearing his medallion just like in the Marvel comics.
“Doctor Strange” follows the comic book story of Doctor Stephen Strange, a surgeon who lost his ability to continue with his profession after a car accident left his hands worthless. He hears of the Ancient One, played by Tilda Swinton, who has the power to cure any ailment so he travels to the Himalayas in hopes of finding a treatment but ends up being the Ancient One’s protégé. He learns the ways of magic and soon became known as the Sorcerer Supreme.
Set photos from the Nepal production of “Doctor Strange” back in November already provided fans their first look at Cumberbatch as the scruffy-looking Stephen Strange. It’s believed the photos were taken while filming for Strange’s journey to find the Ancient One.
