Best Moments at the 2013 Golden Globes: Laughs and Powerful Speeches [VIDEOS]
This year's Golden Globe awards night was filled with moments that deserve to be remembered, thanks to the lively and effective hosting of comediennes Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
It takes a lot to make a room filled with A-listers boost in laughter, but Tina Fey and Amy Poehler managed to do it quite easily. Aside from all the laughs, a lot of touching moments happened during the acceptance speeches of winners. Here are some of the awards night's best moments, with videos and photos.
1. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler's Opening Monologue
The two comediennes swept the star-studded audience with so much laughter during their opening monologue. The two singled out stars that were present, even those who passed on to attend the show. "Meryl Streep is not here tonight, she has the flu. And I hear she's amazing in it." Jokes Poehler.
One of the duo's famous jokes during the night was their reference to director, Kathryn Bigelow, and the controversies surrounding the movie.
"I haven't been really following the controversies around Zero Dark Thirty but when it comes to torture, I trust the woman married to James Cameron for 3 years," blurts out the blonde comedienne.
2. Jodie Foster's Acceptance Speech
When Hollywood veteran, Jodie Foster, spoke to accept the Cecil B. DeMille lifetime achievement award, she said some things that reveals the true nature of her sexuality.
"I already did my coming out in the stone age.Now, apparently, I'm told that every celebrity is expected to honor the details of their private life with a press conference ... You guys might be surprised, but I'm not Honey Boo Boo child,"
She continued by thanking her ex-partner, and saying that celebrities are susceptible to have an "open book" life, hence, confirming that she is indeed, gay. This exhibit of confidence made her an important member of the Hollywood community, and displays that everyone should be proud of who they are.
3. Bill Clinton Introduces "Lincoln"
The entire room fell silent in awe of the ex-president of the United States when he introduced a clip form Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln."
"We're all here tonight because he did it" said Clinton, referring to Lincoln's fight to end the slavery in the United States.
4. Lena Dunham's "Ousider Girls Get A Chance" Acceptance Speech
The star of HBO's "Girls," Lena Dunham, won Best Actress in A Comedy, and when she spoke, it struck many viewers at home with her heartfelt appreciation of her current place in the industry. In a nutshell, Lena proved that "awkward" girls do get their chances in life, especially in Hollywood.
"This award is for everyone who feels like there wasn't a place for her. This show made a space for me." said Dunham.
5. "Girl Power-themed" Speech by Jessica Chastain
When Chastain won as Best Actress in a Drama for Zero Dark Thirty, she made sure to thank her director, Kathryn Bigelow, for showing how women can be powerful in the industry.
"I can't help but compare my character of Maya to you. When you make a film that allows your character to disobey the conventions of Hollywood, you've done more for women in cinema than you take credit for." said Chastain to Bigelow, who was in the crowd applauding for her.
6. Kristen Wiig and Will Ferrel's Hilarious Skit
Some say comedians are the best awards show presenters because they put a dash of humor to a high-strung night. When Kristen Wiiig and Will Ferrel presented a skit where they pretended they didn't know what the nominees did to deserve the award, they got the entire room laughing.
