'Black Sails' Season 3 spoilers: First five minutes of premiere episode released [WATCH VIDEO]
The first five minutes of “Black Sails” Season 3 episode 1 has been released by Starz online as a teaser before the season premiere on Saturday. The video shows a former infamous pirate returning to piracy and going back to Nassau after many years.
[Spoiler alert]
The scene introduces Blackbeard (Ray Stevenson) for the first time on the show. The character was one of the founding members of Nassau, but for some reason had renounced piracy and had left the island.
The video reveals that while Blackbeard was away, he used the name Drummond and was married to a lady. He, however, later decides to separate from her and go back to his life as a pirate.
The lady’s brothers, however, are not happy about the separation and they seek out Drummond, not knowing that he was known as the pirate Teach or Blackbeard earlier. The three brothers ask him to accompany them back to their sister and be her husband.
Blackbeard, however, points out that their sister may have lied to them and explains how she had accepted their separation. He also reveals to them his real identity and tells them that they would not survive this interaction, as they pointed their swords at him.
The first scene of “Black Sails” Season 3 episode 1 establishes Blackbeard as a ruthless, but calm pirate. The pirate also reveals his plans to go back to the island of Nassau.
It is not clear if Blackbeard’s return has anything to do with the gold that Rackham (Toby Schmitz) stole from the Spanish ship Urca de Lima in the previous season. The sudden influx of gold will change things in Nassau and make it a prosperous island for the pirates.
The pirates in Nassau may now need Blackbeard in order put the gold to god use and prepare for the impending war with the British. The introduction of the character in “Black Sails” Season 3 also adds a new dimension to the complex relationship between Flint (Toby Stephens) and Charles Vane (Zach McGowan), as Blackbeard and Vane have a history together.
