After spinoff “The Blacklist: Redemption” got axed, it looks like the show is still capitalizing on the elements which made it a huge success to begin with. NBC did not wait too long to iron out Ryan Eggold’s future on “The Blacklist” following the cancellation of the spinoff. Eggold will be back as a series regular in the show’s fifth season.
Eggold was an original cast member on “The Blacklist,” as he co-starred for three seasons until he left to take the helm of the lead character in “Redemption,” notes Deadline. While the spinoff has been cancelled in the midst of its run, “The Blacklist” has been renewed by NBC for a fifth season.
The spinoff originated as an episode of “The Blacklist” last spring and focused on Eggold’s character Tom Keen and his mother Scottie, played by Famke Janssen. Janssen had a private military business with an array of mercenaries.
While the spin-off gets canceled, there might be some unsolved elements which might find its way to “The Blacklist” when it returns for its fifth season. Viewers are yet to know if there will be a resolution to the spin-off which showed a suprising turnaround for Howard and Scottie Hargrave. It is noteworthy given that there have been so much investment in developing those characters. The challenge now is with “The Black List: Redemption” getting cancelled because not a lot of people watched it, those stories which were to be featured have to make it to the main show, and this will not be easy.
There has been no news yet as to when season 5 of “The Blacklist” will return on NBC, but it is speculated that it will make its return this fall. With some changes, it is also expected that the show’s landscape will be quite different considering that Tom is in for a lot of tragic things to happen.
