A song by a popular Filipino band, Rivermaya, rendered by controversial former Glee star Charice Pempengco, has gone viral on YouTube with more than 16,000 hits so far after a few days it was posted.

The heightened interest in the MTV likely is linked to the issues and questions about the 21-year-old Filipina international singer's gender preference due to the drastic change in her appearance from feminine to masculine.

Kisapmata, the title of the song, translated as In the Blink of an Eye, seems to describe the singer who, in a span of few months, transformed from a sweet young teenager to an angst-ridden young adult apparently seeking independence from her family and labels as well as her old image.

The MTV appears to be a jamming or practice session, not a public or stage performance, since there are band members shown on the background fixing some of their musical instruments. Charice is seen garbed in T-shirt and brown pants, singing the Tagalog lyrics of the song, lamenting the loss of a loved one gone in split second.

Charice's mother, Raquel, said over the weekend that she had given her daughter her blessings to go public with her admission, and many were expecting it to be made on Sunday afternoon on a popular gossip show on Charice's mother network, ABS-CBN.

Although there was no appearance of Charice on Sunday afternoon, contrary to expectation, her fans had gone ahead and supported the singer through tweets, whatever her sexual orientation or gender preference may be.

Reacting to the IBT Australia article that Charice is expected to publicly out, Maria Silva tweeted, "just wanna let u know I love & respect u more than ever. I am a Chaster 4ever."

Jed Severino added, "Charice Pempengco is an awesome singer, no matter what."

Inna Valdes said, "I don't mind that Charice Pempengco is lesbian. (Freedom to love!). However, I do mind the way she dresses and acts. Scary transformation."

Her comments reflect what Charice's mum and grandmum had stated that they do not like her new look, but are willing to accept her choices in life, particularly her sexual orientation.

Incidentally, Charice, who was then still sporting long hair, was one of 25 performers who sang the theme song of UN Women on March 8.

The song, titled One Woman: A Song for UN Women, was inspired by women helped by the agency which is the UN arm tasked with pushing for empowerment of women and the promotion of gender equality.

Charice joined a powerhouse cast of 24 other performers from 21 nations, including Malaysia, Vanuatu, Ethiopia, Israel, China and UK.
