Bollywood’s Priyanka Chopra joins world’s highest paid TV actresses, Sofia Vergara keeps lead
Indian celebrity Priyanka Chopra is the only non-American in the latest ranking of the world’s top-earning television actresses, according to Forbes magazine.
The 34-year-old actress-singer placed eighth on the Forbes’ list of world’s highest paid TV actresses after making US$11 million from June 2014 to June 2015. The Miss World 2000 title holder is best known in Hollywood for her role as Alex Parrish on the ABC thriller series “Quantico.”
Nevertheless, Sofia Vergara kept the top spot for fifth year in a row after earning US$43 million before management fees and taxes. Her role as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett on the ABC series “Modern Family” has given her various award nominations.
“Big Bang Theory” star Kaley Cuoco ranked second to Vergara after making $24.5 million last year. The actress finalised her divorce settlement with professional tennis player Ryan Sweeting.
American comediane Mindy Kaling placed third after earning $15 million. Born to Indian parents as Vera Mindy Chokalingam, Kaling writes and produces “The Mindy Project” for Fox and Hulu.
“Grey’s Anatomy” star Ellen Pompeo and “Law and Order SVU” actress Mariska Hargitay were tied on the fourth place after both earning $14.5 million during the scoring period. Kerry Washington followed on the sixth spot with her $13.5 million earning, mostly from her starring role in the ABC drama series “Scandal.”
Meanwhile, Stana Katic of ABC’s mystery series “Castle” placed seventh on the list with $12 million earnings.
“The Good Wife” star Julianna Margulies ranked ninth with $10.5 million while “Modern Family” actress Julie Bowen secured the tenth spot after making $10 million.
