Eminem net worth update: Rap god only made $14.6 M last year - Forbes
Despite an uneventful year devoid of a new album release and very scant gigs, Eminem still ranked among the world’s highest paid hip-hop acts after earning US$11 million (AU$14.6 million) in the past 12 months.
Marshall Mathers ranked 18th on the 2016 Hip-Hop Cash Kings list, Forbes magazine’s annual ranking of the genre’s top earners. Eminem’s latest haul is way below the US$31 million (AU$40.3 million) he made in 2015.
“It’s been a comparatively quiet year for Marshall Mathers, who continues to cash in on his extensive catalogue of hits,” Forbes magazine said in its report.
“He only played three shows during our scoring period, but made them count: they were all at South American iterations of the Lollapalooza music festival in front of tens of thousands of fans.”
However, Slim Shady made a total of US$151 million (AU$200 million) over the last 10 years, propelling him to rank ninth on Forbes’ list of top-earning hip-hop acts of the decade.
“The Detroit rapper proved you can still earn nine figures from nothing but music; he cashes in on his extensive catalogue of hits with lucrative live shows,” the magazine added.
Eminem new album 2016
Eminem remained mum on the possibility of releasing an album before the year ends. The “Lose Yourself” rapper last released an album “The Marshall Mathers LP 2” in 2013.
The 43-year-old rapper debuted on Forbes’ Celebrity 100 list in 2011 after placing 71st on the list of the world’s highest-paid celebrities. In 2015, he ranked 82nd, but he eventually dropped out of the list in 2016. (Read: Eminem net worth update: Rap god drops out of Forbes Celebrity 100 list)
Among Slim Shady’s last gigs were last summer’s co-headlining Monster Tour with Rihanna, with whom he produced the 2010 hit single “Love the Way You Lie.” The Grammy Award-winning hitmaker was reportedly busy with his online gaming venture with “Shady Wars” and his television venture with Paramount TV’s drama series “Narc.”
Meanwhile, this year’s top-grosser, Diddy, made US$62 million (AU$82 million) pre-tax during the last scoring period. He placed third on the decades’ highest-earning rappers list after making $435 million in the past 10 years. But Dr. Dre claimed the throne as the top-grossing hip-hop act of the last decade, thanks to his $923 million cumulative pre-tax haul since 2007.
