‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine' season 4 spoilers: Jake and Captain Holt face bigger threat
“Brooklyn Nine-Nine” season 3 ended with a cliffhanger, wherein fans were left to see Detective Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) and Captain Raymond Holt (Andre Braugher) whisked away from Brooklyn to Florida under a witness protection program. Now, on the forthcoming season 4 of the FOX police procedural sitcom, viewers get to meet Greg and Larry, new aliases of Jake and Holt.
The final episode of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” season 4 showed Peralta and the rest of the Nine-Nine precinct successfully celebrating their successful bust of the criminal enterprise led by mafia mastermind Jimmy ‘The Butcher’ Figgis. While Figgis himself wasn’t caught, his accomplice, FBI traitor Bob Anderson (Dennis Haysbert), was arrested by the Nine-Nine squad. While Jake partied with his Nine-Nine troop and planned to move in together with fellow detective and girlfriend Amy Santiago (Melissa Fumero), he received a call from Figgis, who threatened to kill him and Holt.
“We wanted the pay-off the end of the arc that we set up,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” showrunner Dan Goor told EW. “We wanted to really give credence to the idea that Figgis was a weighty and serious and stakes-y villain.”
As such, Figgis is a huge threat enough to have caused Jake and Holt to take some time off their duties and fly to Florida as Greg and Larry. The two opposite detectives live as neighbours then and it is still unclear whether their loved ones, Amy for Jake and Kevin (Marc Evan Jackson) for Holt, came along with them.
Dan Goor didn’t reveal any details but he said having Jake and Holt under a witness protection program is intended to explore their relationship as “just neighbours,” as well as discover how the new set-up will influence their other relationships with loved ones, friends and the squad.
“Brooklyn Nine-Nine” season 4 guest stars
While Captain Holt is away, a new Captain is expected to fill in for the “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” precinct. Actor Ken Marino is already slated to portray new captain who goes by the name C.J. Marino. Marino is supposedly a laidback captain whose promotion for the position was gotten out of luck; thus, unlike Holt, he’s not big into discipline.
Another guest star expected in “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” is Samberg’s SNL castmate Maya Rudolph. The actress signed on for a two-episode guest stint for season 4, playing a US Marshall who serves as a liaison to Jake and Holt while they are in witness protection.
Goor also noted that fans can expect guest star Jason Mantzoukas to return to the show some time soon. His character, Adrian Pimento, is an unstable police Detective who worked undercover for years for The Butcher. He developed a passionate relationship with Detective Rosa Diaz (Stephanie Beatriz) on season 3 of the show.
“Brooklyn Nine-Nine” season 4 premieres on September 20 on FOX in the US. The show airs on SBS channel in Australia.
