The radio stations of Australia have settled for a business approach last year of programming music that was not at all patriotic.

Music publication, 'The Music Network,' gathered up the most played tracks on air all over Australia. They explain the ones who get the most downloads or sales do not mean they are played on the radio all the time.

A good example of this would be 'Animal' by the band Neon Trees. It did not do well in album or download sales but it was number one on the list of most played radio tracks last year. TMN found out that the song spent about 30 weeks in the top 40 frequently played last year. Pink's 'F---in' Perfect' made it on the third spot in the similar chart list.

Adele who is known to have had the highest selling album of last year only ranked at 7th place with her song 'Rolling in the Deep,' while her other single 'Someone Like You' ended up at 24th. Down at the 55th spot is the highest selling Australian single of last year, 'Somebody That I Used To Know' by Gotye and Kimbre.

The most interesting thing about these findings is Bruno Mars emerging to be the most played artist in the local radios of Australia. Mars' recent singles made it to the top five airplay list always of a variety of radio stations nationwide. Katy Perry lands at second place followed by Pink and Birds of Tokyo.

Other artist names mentioned in the said list of The Music Network include Jessie J, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Good Charlotte and the Foo Fighters.

With all these, it seemed that the appreciation of the Aussies for their own local music has been revived but have certainly lost its magic last year when judged according to airplay measure.

What will happen to the future of Australian music in the coming years?
