Call of Duty Hollywood Championships: Two Aussie Teams Join Finals Battle in April
Whoever said that nothing could come out of playing video games can now proudly say otherwise, as eight expert Australian gamers now have the chance to win $1 million dollars at the Call of Duty Championship in Hollywood.
Last Friday night, Activision gathered the best players Call of Duty players in Australia and New Zealand to go against each other, and two teams came out on top after eight hours of gameplay against 32 other expert competitors.
Team Immunity and Mindfreak eSports took on the title of ANZ's best Call of Duty team, and will be on their way to best others on April 5 to 7 at the Hollywood Palladium Theater for the final face-off.
"It's a great feeling to take out the Call of Duty title in Australia, and we can't wait to go to Hollywood and play for the big bucks against the world's best," said Albert Nassif, the captain of Team Immunity.
The eight winning teams from the ESL's European Finals held at Cologne, Germany, are also qualified for the final battle. Other slots are for Asia's representatives, which are still yet to be announced.
Top eight teams from the MLG Winter Championship in Dallas, Texas, will also secure a spot each, joined by the winning teams for the MLG 2013 Pro Circuit for Black Ops 2, reports VG 24/7.
Thirty-two teams are slated to battle it out to for money prize, but more than that, they will also be battling for the bragging rights and honor to be called the best Call of Duty players in the world.
MWEB Gamezone, Megarom Interactive, and the Electronic Sports League have also announced that a team from South Africa will be flown to Hollywood as a representative, reports MyGaming.
Announced last month by partnership between Activision and Xbox, the Black ops 2 Tournament called for teams of four who will be pitted against other expert gamers for the eliminations.
"The successful launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops II last year showed the continued strength of the call of Duty franchise loyally," said Senior Vice President Asia Pacific at Activision, Philip earl. "So it's wonderful to be able to give back to the loyal community with the Call of Duty Championships."
