Canon announced the availability in Australia of the PowerShot SX280 HS that features the brand's proprietary High Sensitivity (HS) system known for providing good performance despite low light.

The 12-megapixel camera has the new Digic 6 image processor and Wi-Fi and GPS connectivity to allow users to transfer images and geotag images wirelessly.

Other specs of the camera include 20x optical zoom, 25mm wide-angle lens, full HD (60fps) movies, 7.5 cm PureColor II G LCD screen, manual AV and TV modes and high-speed shooting that allows the camera to capture 14 frames per second in burst mode.

Photography experts have the choice of using its full manual controls or the new Hybrid Auto mode that could record four seconds of footage before every shot. It then compiles all the videos into a single 720p clip to provide users with a behind-the-scenes look at the events for the day.

In the U.S., the camera which joined Canon's powerful compact Super Zoom range beside the PowerShot SX 500 IS and the PowerShot SX 50 HS, retails at $329.99. The Australian Web site of Canon did not list yet a price for the shooter.

The shooter is said to be ideal for travelers' use, especially those who want to track their route effortlessly or remember the precise location where they took the picture-perfect shot through its built-in GPS that automatically tags each photo or video with the local time and pinpoints the location where it was taken.
