‘Captain America: Civil War': Elizabeth Olsen talks changes to Scarlet Witch's powers
Elizabeth Olsen, who reprises her role as Scarlet Witch in “Captain America: Civil War, recently teased the evolution of her character’s powers. The actress also revealed Scarlet Witch’s predisposition in the sequel following the death of her brother, Quicksilver, in “Avengers: Age of Ultron.”
MTV News caught up with the actress at the Toronto International Film Festival while she was doing press rounds for her biopic “I Saw The Light,” where she stars with fellow Marvel Cinematic Universe actor, Tom Hiddleston. Talking about how Scarlet Witch’s powers would have advanced since “Age of Ultron,” Olsen told MTV News that she had to train with her movement coach Jennifer White to show that there have been some changes.
“We’re trying to grow her movement as a whole… Jenny and I have great pride in trying to make this a huge transformation — the next time we see her — of her abilities,” she said.
The actress also shared some details on Scarlet Witch’s vulnerable condition in “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and whether this will carry on to “Captain America: Civil War.” Talking about her character’s emotional state, Olsen said Scarlet is doing okay but is just a little disoriented.
“She’s doing alright. She’s confused, she’s conflicted. She’s found some people she thinks she connects with, but she’s doing alright,” Olsen told MTV News.
In “Captain America: Civil War,” the heroes will be divided into two teams because of the Superhuman Registration Act. Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Captain America (Chris Evans) will be pitted against each other since Cap is against it. They will each have their own team of Avengers and it's believed Scarlet Witch will be siding with Cap. However, Olsen teased Scarlet’s change of alliance during her interview with MTV News.
“They released images of Team Cap and Team Iron Man. She (Scarlet Witch) wasn’t there. She’s always the wild card. I like being the wild card,” the actress said.
A catastrophic event will reportedly happen in “Captain America: Civil War,” and it’s all because of Cap and Scarlet Witch. During a battle with Crossbones (Frank Grillo), Scarlet accidentally detonates the bomb that is strapped to Crossbones' vest, causing a huge explosion that kills off many civilians. This destruction is believed to be called the “The Sokovia Accords.”
