The title and synopsis of the final episode of “Castle” Season 7 have been released. The episode is titled “Hollander’s Woods” and according to the synopsis, when there is a murder in the woods, Castle is drawn back to “terrifying” and “defining” event in his childhood. “Investigation leads to obsession, as he attempts to unearth answers that have eluded him for decades, all while Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) faces a crossroads,” the synopsis adds.
Speaking about the final episode, show’s creator Andrew Marlowe, who has co-written episode 23 of “Castle” Season 7, told TV Guide that it revolves around an event that happened when the best-selling writer was 11-years-old. He added that the case of the episode and the event of his childhood have an “eerie similarities.” The episode will show Castle’s backstory.
“So, it opens up some old wounds and leads to a bit of an obsession as he starts exploring some of the issues surrounding the case," Marlowe said.
He also told TV Guide that it was a “challenge” writing for the final episode, as there is uncertainty surrounding “Castle” Season 8. ABC has yet to officially renew “Castle” for Season 8. There is hope that the show will return this fall, as Fillion has signed on his new contract. Katic, however, is still negotiating with ABC Studios, the producer of “Castle.” If the show gets renewed, it will return with a new show-runner, as David Amann is exiting the series after Season 7.
And if there is another season, Marlowe said that there is still a lot of story to tell. He added that there will be a lot of unresolved issues, but the episode will not end on a "traditional cliff-hanger." “Castle” Season 7 final episode is scheduled to air on May 11.
The episode 20, titled "Sleeper," answered why Castle disappeared on his wedding day. However, Castle still could not figure out some of the questions, including how he got the gun shot and why he was gone for two months. The final episode may revisit this mystery again.
