The new mythology and Caskett’s separation have infused new life into “Castle.” The premiere episode of “Castle” Season 8 saw the introduction of a new deadly mythology, and because of that Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) decided to put her and Rick Castle’s (Nathan Fillion) relationship on a pause mode. She walked out of her marriage to find the Kingpin -- the powerful partner of now dead William Bracken (Jack Coleman) -- who is calling the shots from within the CIA, and also to keep her husband out of harm's way. Fillion has revealed why the new showrunners, Alexi Hawley and Terence Paul Winter, decided to separate Castle and Beckett.

"… they (Hawley and Winter) wanted to get back to a time when people were rooting for the couple, rooting for them to get together, to do something,” Fillion told TV Line.

The new episodes of “Castle” Season 8 will see the return of the original lighter, comedic tone. The actor said that “Castle” is more of a comedy and its core is made up of “dramatic and heartfelt moments” and not drama.

The showrunners wanted to “bring it back to a time when it was funny, when it was great, when it was the lighthearted show that everybody fell in love with,” Fillion said.

In an earlier interview with TV Line, Hawley and Winter revealed that the upcoming episodes are going to be a lot of fun. These episodes will feature episodic cases, although Beckett will continue to work on the new mythology with her new partner in crime Vikram Singh (Sunkrish Bala).

And Castle and Beckett are not expected to reunite anytime soon. However, they will together land in situations that have “electricity to them,” according to Hawley.

Castle and Beckett are set to end up working together. The two will be “building theory together,” Winter said, adding “they have all those delightful put-togethers.”

“The sparks between them are electric if not more than ever, and that’s one of the main reasons why we made this bold choice [separated Caskett],” Winter said.

The showrunners also indicated there will be another "incredible" shift in Castle and Beckett’s dynamic in fall-season finale, which is scheduled to air on Nov. 23.
