Fernando Torres marked a new milestone on Tuesday as he started his 100th start for Chelsea, but it could not have gotten any much better as the Spanish striker coupled this feat with a brace.

What looked like a total domination by the Blues on the scoreboard did not seem as such when the game was progressing according to Torres.

"It wasn't easy. Sometimes the result doesn't reflect the reality,' Torres told chelseafc.com.

"We still have to improve. The first half was 50/50 and we were lucky to score the first goal early."

Torres emphasised that individual superiority took won them the game paired with superb counterattacking.

"They had their chances but in the second half our individual quality made the difference. We got a couple of counter-attacks and could score two more goals to close the game," he said.

"After a bad start we have had the last six points away and that's very important for us."

"'We have to play Schalke again at home and we're not in a bad position now."

The Blues are seemingly getting to their peak as their campaign progresses. They are reaping from blunders that they made early on as well as from the highly competitive nature of matches.

"As a team we are feeling much better after the pre-season and we are improving. Individually it is the same, the last few games I feel very sharp, very well."

But, the Spaniard was quick to mention that their campaign will still have a long way to go.

"It's a young squad, with young players, a new manager and it takes time to settle. We are still improving but hopefully we can see the best Chelsea from now until the end of the season," he intimated.

Competition up-front has benefitted Chelsea more than anything else as it makes the strkers work doubly hard just to earn a spot, or at the very least, minutes, in the first team.

"We have three very good strikers and hopefully all of us can score goals. When I play I hope to score goals and when Samuel and Demba play they have to score as well, so this competition is very healthy," he added.
