Premier League club Chelsea surprises everyone after announcing that Basel midfielder Mohamed Salah is on the verge of heading to Stamford Bridge permanently.

Salah has been heavily linked with Liverpool in the past few days, but reports suggest that Basel and the Reds were not able to reach an agreement as to the supposed fee.

"Chelsea Football Club can confirm an agreement has been reached with FC Basel for the transfer of their 21-year-old attacking midfielder Mohamed Salah," the club's official Web site announced.

"The move is subject to the Egyptian international agreeing personal terms and completing a medical examination."

The Blues are believed to have placed an £11million bid for the 21-year-old.

The Egyptian international must have found a way to impress Jose Mourinho when Basel played Chelsea in the Champions League this season, scoring a goal in each of both games in the group stages, winning over the west London side twice.
