Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers plans to bring AC Milan holding midfielder Nigel De Jong to Anfield as a possible cover for injured Reds player Lucas Leiva.

The Brazilian suffered a ligament strain in his right knee, ruling him out for about eight weeks, but Rodgers believes that the 27-year-old will not be able to recover in time to get back to Premier League action this season.

Meanwhile, De Jong has been featuring regularly for the San Siro outfit and is considered as a feisty tormentor to opposing attackers.

The Dutch international is receiving fat paychecks from Milan, but is understood to be entertaining an opportunity for him to redeem himself in England.

Signing De jong will be a welcome development for the Liverpool boss as he will need all the help that he can get to guide the club to, at least, a top-four finish, for them to get back to Champions League action.
